Reed Smith's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Summit

September 30 2021
11:00 AM ET
In 2020, the public’s attention focused on racial inequality, social justice, and representation issues with an unprecedented urgency, giving visibility and momentum to social movements that had struggled to gain traction for years. As a result, organizations were compelled to examine their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) policies and programs quickly, and in ways they hadn’t done before. Reed Smith's fifth annual Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Summit will examine how 2020 accelerated the call for DE&I in the workplace and what organizations should be doing now to move toward a more inclusive and equitable legal profession going forward. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Eddie S. Glaude Jr., New York Times best-selling author and chair of Princeton’s Department of African American Studies. As an intellectual who speaks to the complex dynamics of the American experience, Dr. Glaude challenges organizations to go beyond just stating their DE&I vision to authentically living its values. Viewing DE&I through an ethical and highly pragmatic lens, Dr. Glaude urges organizations to set bold goals and shift their approaches to create an environment that truly leverages talent and maximizes it at all levels – from junior employees to the C-suite.

COVID-19 and the great (delayed) return

September 29, 2021
12:00 PM ET
Employers are still facing major challenges due to COVID-19 as the Delta Variant takes hold and delays planned office openings. Companies are now grappling with mandating vaccines and dealing with the accommodations landscape. These issues and others open the doors to possible discrimination, retaliation, workplace health/safety, and wage claims, among others. Reed Smith lawyers will partner with BRIO Benefits Consulting to review the risks employers are facing, how they can protect themselves and what to prepare for.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we at Reed Smith have postponed all upcoming in-person events.

As with many global organizations, we are generally following the guidance of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; however, we are also monitoring guidance at the state level in the US as well as guidance issued by other public health authorities as it applies to our offices. Where there is any ambiguity, we are erring on the side of caution.

We look forward to hosting you again in person in the future. In the meantime, please visit our webinars page for a full listing of our virtual events.
